This is a super twirl dress and easy as pie to whip together! European pattern company Abacadabra sure gave us a dandy with 81.
A little note about these patterns; they have a very large size range 92 baby clear through 152 (which should fit some of you moms out there.) If you wear a EU 38 womens or smaller you really should check your measurements and try out a 152, you might find you don't even need to make adjustments!
Back to this twirl-o-rama. Cut out your pattern pieces, 10 each of the 2 dress pieces, 2 each of the front and back and 4 shoulder pieces. The pattern calls to add interfacing to one of each the front and back and 2 straps but I'm using denim, I think that's a sturdy enough fabric.
Sew all 20 "skirt" pieces together.
For the bodice part I varied from the instructions, mostly because I wasn't paying well enough attention. First stitch the strap long sides and the short side. Leave the longer short side open you'll enclose this when you stitch up the back piece. What I did next is this: sandwich the straps at the marks between the 2 back pieces that are right sides together. Stitch all of that together in one fell swoop.
Then I stitched the front pieces right side together along the underarm slope and the straight top. I then opened up the front pieces and the back pieces and stitched the side seam. Pressed and top stitched.
Next I'll add the bodice part to the skirt part. The instructions say you may need to make some adjustments in the seam to make it all fit like a glove. I got worried that my denim was going to bleed all over in it's first washing (even though it's been washed a couple of time) so I put my bodice part on the stove and let it boil for a bit - it's in the dryer now. Wish me luck!
